Biography
María Sosa (Morelia, Mexico, 1985) reflects on the impact of the colonial past on contemporary social dynamics, addressing themes such as epistemicide, racism, and the invisibilization of non-Western knowledge. Her work, which includes sculptures, publications, videos, and performances, explores the Ecology of Knowledge and the recovery of techniques from pre-Hispanic and contemporary ritual objects.
She holds a degree in Visual Arts from the Michoacana University and has co-directed the short film La Palabra de la Cueva, winner of the Hermanos Alba Award for Best Short Film at the 2017 Morelia International Festival. She has exhibited individually in places like Llano Gallery (CDMX), La Ibérica Arte UNAM (Yucatán), and ARTEBA (Buenos Aires). Her work is part of collections at LACMA (Los Angeles) and the Servais Family Collection (Belgium), among others.
Sosa has received support from the Young Creators Program of FONCA and the Bancomer MACG Current Art Program, and has completed residencies at CCA Andraxt (Spain), Clarice O. Tavares (NY), and Saint Étienne (France).
