The work of Jose Dávila (Guadalajara, MX, 1974) is a constant search for moments of reciprocity between contradictory elements. Through a structural intuition, Dávila produces constructive situations in which tension and calm coexist; geometric order and random chaos; fragility and resistance. By basing his work on the specificity of the materials he uses and emphasizing their contradictions, Dávila pushes the limits of perception to test the relationship between form and content, forcing the viewer to reexamine the ways in which we understand and consume the visual culture that surrounds us.

Dávila's sculptural work materializes physical processes such as gravity, resistance, and the exchange of forces; these complex relationships and their effects are reflected in how the sculptures manage to maintain their forms thanks to the balance between magnitudes and how the involved elements participate in an act of balance. This also happens on a symbolic level as Dávila weighs the historical evolution of sculpture through these situations on the brink of collapse.
