Biography

The Suro Ceramics factory, founded in 1951 in Tlaquepaque, Jalisco by Noé Suro Olivares, began producing high-quality artisanal ceramics for architects, artists, and designers. Since 1993, under the direction of José Noé Suro, it has focused on promoting contemporary art, collaborating with artists such as Walead Beshty, Milena Muzquiz, and Theaster Gates, among others.

From the 1990s, Suro began working with visual artists, blending traditional techniques with contemporary proposals. This collaboration resulted in a wide variety of styles and formats, which have been exhibited in international museums and galleries. Furthermore, the factory operates as a residency for artists, offering facilities to work with materials such as aluminum, steel, glass, and wood.

The initiative also gave rise to the Marcela and José Noé Suro Collection, which includes over 700 pieces of contemporary art from artists in Mexico and around the world, reflecting the union of technique and creativity in 21st-century art.
