Vamos a ver

Let’s See is a shard of a ray of light, a constellation of shifting possibilities that respond to the contemplative rhythm of the viewer. It is a conversation that brings you closer to what is about to be revealed: a dynamic interaction between opacity and transparency, the experience of inhabiting a space filled with sensitivities.

Two artists come together to embrace chaos and uncertainty, to explore the unknown while honoring craft traditions. The friendship woven over thirty years between Jorge Pardo (Havana, Cuba, 1963) and Pae White (Los Angeles, USA, 1963) returns to the heart of Cerámica Suro after decades of constant travels to Guadalajara since the late nineties. Together, they challenge their own practices by exploring local techniques, building collective dialogues, and trusting in the beauty of the surprising.

Let’s See presents projects that both artists produced independently, although in a conceptual dialogue, culminating in a chance and organic encounter. During their timely visits to the factory, they discussed the viability of their ideas with José Noé Suro, who rarely turned down a proposal and often encouraged even the most outlandish. The projects began to take shape in a persistent long-distance collaboration. This particular experience of remote study involved working with manufacturers in different locations while maintaining a continuous dialogue to allow the moving parts to gradually converge and thus foster an unexpected affinity for the unknown, along with the hope and uncertainty surrounding the final outcome.

The works first came together during the installation of this exhibition, but they reflect a story of shared complicity from the early years of both artists' careers in Los Angeles. Their practice focuses on the potential of a work of art to exist independently, transforming itself and the space it occupies in the process. The role of the object, the idea of 'beauty' as an interpretative tool rather than a fixed definition, and the seductive disruption between art and design are key catalysts within their works. Thus, the chandeliers fracture the space, expanding our perception of scale; the blown glass filters light and creates immersive atmospheres; the delicate fragility of ceramics challenges every notion of failure. The works are testimony to both improvisation and skill.

Pardo and White invite us to relate to their work, considering light, echoes, and architecture as active agents shaping a unique experience: created, consumed, and shared, shifting from the viewer's space-time context. Let’s See proposes allowing visual curiosity and emotional impulses to guide our interpretation of what is observed. It encourages us to come closer and notice how, intuitively, the work incites reflection on our reactions to both familiar and unfamiliar objects. These works evoke memories, challenge our perceptions, and inspire us to reimagine them in new worlds. What may at first glance seem obtuse becomes fascinating upon closer examination.
