The Flowers of the Night
As part of the public program surrounding the exhibition ‘Buried Future’ by Cynthia Gutiérrez, the screening of the documentary ‘The Flowers of the Night’ (2020), directed by Eduardo Esquivel and Omar Robles, was presented; followed by a brief conversation between the directors, Alexa, one of the protagonists, and Cynthia Gutiérrez. In this conversation, related themes such as identity construction, the importance of affective bonds as a territory of liberation, and the role of oral histories in the development of collective memories were addressed.
Synopsis: In a small town by the shores of the largest lake in Mexico live “The Flowers of the Night,” the sexual dissent of the community. The strong friendship that exists among them has generated a sense of belonging that uniquely binds them together; in their sisterhood, the manifesto of identity and pride blooms with which they live their youth and proclaim their freedom.
